Since 1875, the diocesan newspaper of The Diocese of Providence has existed to share the local and international news of the Catholic Church with Rhode Island Catholics. With a new philosophy that values the importance of local news of the Rhode Island Catholic Community, Rhode Island Catholic, encourages and welcomes your news.
The value and success of Rhode Island Catholic is dependent upon you, our community partners. Without your news and information, we would not be able to provide news and stories of interest to the readership of one of the state’s oldest newspapers.
The following information has been compiled by The Catholic staff to provide you with a helpful resource.
What should I include in a press release sent to the paper?
Any and all press releases should answer – at the very minimum - the following questions: who, what, where, when and why?
How can I get my event/ news covered in the newspaper?
All events or news should have some relationship to the Catholic Church and appeal to a wide audience. Please send all event notifications three weeks prior to actual event.
Please know that with a limited staff, it is difficult for the paper to cover every event in the Diocese of Providence, however, every effort will be made to cover newsworthy events of appeal to a wide audience. If the newspaper is unable to cover your event, please feel free to send photos and a press release.
How do I send a photo to the newspaper for consideration?
The Rhode Island Catholic encourages its readers to share photos of interest to the greater community. Due to space limitations, all photos sent to the paper may not be published, however, all submissions will be given equal consideration.
