Respect Life Office takes to the airwaves with new TV program

PROVIDENCE – The Respect Life Office of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence this week announced the launch of a new television program, ‘This is the Life,’ which will broadcast Wednesday mornings and evenings at 9:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Cox Channel 14, Verizon Channel 33 and Full Channel 59.

The first episode will air on April 9.

The program will share with viewers information on various life-related issues and will inspire all people to have an unconditional commitment to life regardless of the age, stage or circumstance of life. “As the Respect Life movement continues to grow in numbers and influence, sharing information about the many different areas of life issues is critical,” said Carol Owens, coordinator for the Respect Life Office. “‘This is the Life’ is but one of many different tools we are using to educate Rhode Islanders about the importance and sanctity of life at all stages. I am hopeful that this program will inform and educate viewers with the facts about the pro-life effort.”

Under the aegis of Bishop Thomas J. Tobin’s Human Life Guild, the television program also offers an invitation to join the Diocese of Providence in its mission to make a difference and to create a greater awareness of the direct and indirect threats and challenges to human life in our society today. The content of the program will address a wide-spectrum of issues relative to the protection and sanctity of human life.

The Human Life Guild is an organization whose members accept the invitation to be “People of Life,” to have an unconditional commitment to human life. Members of the Guild have no obligation, other than to promote and defend human life at every stage, in every condition, through thought, word, deed and prayer. More than 1,500 individuals from throughout the diocese are members of this program. The Guild is open to all adults and youths.

The first program will focus on the October 2007 Human Life Guild Day: Bishop Thomas J. Tobin’s homily, the presentation of the Human Life Guild Recognition awards and an overview of the program offerings.

Owens hosts the program with Kristin Caproni, education specialist for the office conducting the interviews. ‘This is the Life’ will cover issues such as chastity, challenges parents face, post-abortion, the Human Papilloma Virus Vaccine, natural family planning, environmental issues, adoption, writing music for life, the Gabriel Project and much more.

A two-part program featuring Dr. David Franks from his presentation on Human Life Guild Day 2007, “Pro-Life Solidarity Requires Wisdom”, will be available to viewers at an important time when our country is facing the challenges of electing a president to lead our country.
