COVENTRY – Parishioners at SS. John & Paul Church on Tiogue Avenue and Coventry residents will be happy to learn that improvements to the church parking lot are nearly complete. The recent major construction of a new building at the church has meant a loss of some parking spaces and inconvenience in traffic flow.
By April 23, most of the parking lot was scheduled to be repaved, resulting in a new and improved flow of traffic with a focus on safety. As this is the largest Roman Catholic parish in the state, prior to the construction project traffic flow could be difficult and slow when Mass ended, with hundreds of cars attempting to exit onto Tiogue Avenue.
“Repaving the parking lot and improving the traffic flow pattern for both the church and the school completes a major milestone in this project,” said Fr. Paul Grenon, parish pastor. “We are very appreciative of the flexibility and patience our parishioners and fellow town residents have shown during the construction, and now we’ll all be rewarded with this wonderful new and safe parking lot.” Father Grenon added that he expects he will see an uptick in Mass attendance now that parking and egress are no longer an obstacle.
