WARWICK — Seminarian Andrew Messina will be ordained a transitional deacon on May 17 at St. Peter Church, 35 Fair St., Warwick.
Bishop Thomas J. Tobin will preside at the ceremony, which will begin at 10 a.m.
“The realization of becoming a deacon is very exciting," said Messina, a student at Blessed John XXIII National Seminary, Weston, MA. “Ordination is a true gift from God, and it is my hope and prayer that this gift will be used in the best way possible to serve God and my brothers and sisters in Christ.
“As a seminarian, we are given the opportunity to serve in a variety of ways, such as serving at Mass and other liturgies, doing hospital visits, and seeing those at home who are unable to come to church. Becoming a transitional deacon is a major step forward in the direction of the priesthood, in that it provides further opportunities at the liturgies, such as assisting the bishop or priest in the celebration of the Mass and proclaiming the Gospel.”
The public is invited to attend the diaconate ceremony. For more information, call 331-1316.
