Providence College presents 'Company'

PROVIDENCE ¬ Providence College's Department of Theater, Dance and Film will present the Tony Award-winning musical comedy "Company," created by Stephen Sondheim and George Furth.

Performances are scheduled for the weekends of March 31-April 1 and April 13-15, in the Angell Blackfriars Theater, Smith Center for the Arts. The curtain rises on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m.; Sunday matinees are at 2 p.m. The April 14 performance is sold out.

Set in New York City in the 1970s, the musical tells the story of Robert, a 35 year-old man with charm, good looks, and an effusive sense of humor. He is the only member of his group of friends without a spouse, and his peers think this needs to be corrected. Winner of six Tony awards, in its first year, the entertaining musical began a genre of comedies about young New Yorkers and their foibles that has been the subject of many popular movies and television series.

The production is directed and choreographed by guest artist and Providence College alumnus Chris J. Silva. Musical direction is provided by David Harper, who will also conduct the orchestra of professional and student musicians.

Scene design is by guest artist Mike Micucci. Costumes for the production were designed by David Costa-Cabral, Associate Professor in the Department of Theater, Dance and Film.
