PROVIDENCE – The Most Rev. Thomas J. Tobin has appointed Rev. Robert H. Forcier, assistant pastor of SS. John and Paul parish in Coventry, chaplain of the Human Life Guild, an organization comprised of individuals who have responded to Bishop Tobin’s challenge to make an unconditional commitment to human life and are willing to promote and defend human life at every stage.
As Chaplain, Fr. Forcier will provide spiritual and pastoral direction to The Guild, collaborate with Carol Owens, diocesan Respect Life coordinator, in developing and directing respect life programs in the Diocese, and preside at liturgies, devotional services and other public events related to the Diocese’s respect life agenda.
“Fr. Forcier’s personal witness to the sanctity of human life is commendable” said Bishop Tobin. “His work as chaplain of the Human Life Guild will enhance the Diocesan commitment to preach and live the Gospel of Life. The protection of human life is not just a Catholic value, rather, one in which all can and should work to advance.”
"The right to life is the foundation of every other human right,” said Fr. Forcier. “We have a moral responsibility to give faithful witness to the Gospel of Life. Our efforts must always be directed at preserving and protecting the sacred gift of human life. As chaplain, I look forward to working with Carol Owens and the members of the Human Life Guild."
“I am truly pleased that Bishop Tobin has asked Father Forcier to serve as chaplain,” said Owens. “Father Forcier will provide spiritual and pastoral direction to the guild as well as collaborate in the development and direction of respect life programs in the Diocese of Providence. This appointment is truly a gift to the respect life movement in the diocese.”
The Human Life Guild includes the diocesan Respect Life Office and was established by Bishop Tobin in the fall of 2005 to encourage membership of those who are willing to accept the invitation to be “People of Life,” to have an unconditional commitment to human life and to be willing to promote and defend human life at every stage, in every condition, through thought, word, deed and prayer.
The guild includes more than 1,600 adult members and 150 youth members, with a membership that remains open to all people in the diocese.
