St. Brigid Church to honor patroness

JOHNSTON – St. Brigid Church, 1231 Plainfield St., will celebrate the feast of its patroness at Masses, Feb. 4, 5 p.m.; Feb. 5, 8 and 10 a.m. Father Robert Rochon, pastor, will be the celebrant, and will bless and distribute butter to emulate St. Brigid’s generosity by providing dairy products to those less fortunate in her village. The parish’s social ministry will offer refreshments in the church hall following the Masses.

Our Lady of Guadalupe missionary image to visit diocese

PROVIDENCE – The Office of Life and Family Ministry will host the Missionary Image of Our Lady of Guadalupe from Jan. 6 to Jan. 30 at several parishes throughout the diocese. These parishes will be offering Holy Hours, Benediction, recitation of the rosary and special Masses during the month to commemorate the appearance of Our Lady of Guadalupe when she appeared to St. Juan Diego over 470 years ago. Our Lady left a miraculous image on Juan Diego’s cactus fiber Tilma which can be viewed to this day in a basilica near Mexico City. Bishop Tobin to celebrate Annual Respect Life Mass

CRANSTON – The annual Diocesan Respect Life Mass will be celebrated Jan. 21, 9 a.m., at St. Paul Church, One St. Paul Place. Bishop Thomas J. Tobin will be the main celebrant; Father Robert H. Forcier will serve as concelebrant, and Deacon Jose Rico will serve as deacon assistant. Themed “A Day of Prayer and Penance for Life,” the event will begin at 8 a.m. at the Women’s Center of Rhode Island on Broad Street, where participants will gather to recite the rosary and venerate the Missionary Image of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The image will be on display during Mass, and later at a reception in the school auditorium. The image will return to the church at 3 p.m., and will be available for veneration during a program that will include a presentation, confession, and recitation of the rosary. Post-abortion ministries to sponsor prayer service

GREENVILLE – The Office of Life and Family Ministry’s post-abortion ministries will sponsor a prayer service for those affected by abortion, Jan. 28, 9 a.m.-noon, at St. Philip Church, 622 Putnam Pike. The service will include personal testimonies, intercessory prayer, eucharistic adoration and recitation of the rosary, confession, and Mass celebrated by Father Juniper Sistare, assistant pastor of St. Philip Church. Sts. Rose and Clement to host ‘Prayer Service for Life’

WARWICK – The Missionary Image of Our Lady of Guadalupe will be present at Sts. Rose and Clement Church, 111 Long St., Jan. 17, 8 a.m.-8 p.m. The parishes pro-life committee will sponsor a “Prayer Service for Life,” 7 p.m., in the church. Warren churches sponsor annual unity prayer service

WARREN – The Warren Churches Association will hold a Christian Unity Prayer Service, Jan. 15, 2 p.m., at the The Baptist Church of Warren, 407 Main St. The council’s mission is to promote, understand and respect Christian diversity through prayer and community outreach. St. Patrick to host Dr. King celebration

PROVIDENCE – The Office of Black Catholic Ministry will sponsor a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. birthday celebration, Jan. 14, following the 4 p.m. Mass, at St. Patrick Church, 244 Smith St. The program, titled “Love and Peace in the Beloved Community,” will include prayer, music and celebration, Refreshments will be served in the parish hall following the program. Knights to hold information night

Providence College to present ‘Lend Me a Tenor’

PROVIDENCE – The Department of Theatre, Dance and Film at Providence College will present “Lend Me a Tenor,” a Tony-nominated, classic period comedy set in the 1930’s, Jan.27-28, 8 p.m.; Jan. 29, 2 p.m.; Feb. 3-4, 8 p.m.; Feb. 5, 2 p.m., in the Blackfriars Theatre, Smith Center for the Performing Arts. Bishop Gelineau to celebrate 40th year as shepherd

PROVIDENCE – The Diocese of Providence will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving to mark Bishop Louis E. Gelineau’s 40th Anniversary as bishop, Feb. 5, 1 p.m., in the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul, One Cathedral Square. All are invited to celebrate with priests, religious and laity of the local Catholic community on this blessed occasion.
