Mount Saint Charles Academy’s Music Director Marc Blanchette ’76 of North Smithfield, was recently awarded the Meritorious Service Award by the Rhode Island Music Educator Association at their annual meeting in September.

This award is the highest honor in the field of music education that a music teacher can attain. Blanchette was a unanimous choice of the R.I.M.E.A. executive board and the only music teacher selected for this most prestigious award this year in Rhode Island.

The board stated that Blanchette represents “the very best example of a complete and totally dedicated music educator” and he has “set a very high standard of excellence in our field.”

In order to be nominated and to qualify for this particular award a teacher must demonstrate the following: effectiveness in teaching young people; educational innovation; continued professional growth; active involvement in local, state, and national affairs; and an effective school music program.
