Praying for the future of the religious life

The Diocese of Providence Office of Vocations hosted a Family Vocations Day on Saturday, April 16. The event, which is sponsored by and organized with the help of the Fathers of Mercy, offered families from around the diocese an opportunity to gather for a day of prayer and reflection on the meaning of “vocation,” God’s unique call for each member of the human family.

Members from several religious orders attended the event: the Fathers of Mercy, Benedictine Monks of Still River, Franciscan Sisters of the Renewal, Dominican Fathers, Dominican Sisters, Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist, the Little Sisters of the Poor, and the de LaSalle Christian Brothers. Priests and seminarians for the Diocese of Providence were also on hand to offer their witness.

The day included the celebration of Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, Confessions, witness talks from the members of each community, games and entertainment, a “host making” class for children, and lunch. A member of the Fathers of Mercy offered his talent of “beat-boxing” and performed a faith-based rap, religious sisters preformed praise and worship, and a group of Monks sang a beautiful Gregorian chant. The day was a grace-filled reminder of the many and varied ways in which the Lord calls us to serve the Church.
