Sister Brigid Costelloe, SJC

SAN PEDRO, Calif. — Sister Brigid Costelloe, 85, died December 11 at Jeanne Jugan Residence, San Pedro, Calif.

Sister Costelloe was born in Cork, Ireland, October 18, 1927, into a family of strong traditional and religious values. She was the fourth of five children. She entered St. Joseph of Cluny novitiate in Ireland, in September 1947.

Her first assignment was to Philadelphia before she served in Wilmington, Calif., where she joined the faculty of SS. Peter and Paul School. She subsequently devoted many years to classroom education at St. Catherine Laboure School, Torrance, Calif. and Cluny School, Newport. Sister Costelloe also served various parishes in Los Angeles and Orange Counties, including the Spirituality Center in Orange, Calif., in the areas of RCIA, adult religious education and spiritual direction.

For the last six years of Sister’s life she benefited from the loving and excellent care of the Little Sisters of the Poor and the staff of Jeanne Jugan Residence, San Pedro.

She leaves her Cluny Sisters, many nieces and nephews in San Diego and Ireland, and her numerous friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Jeanne Jugan Residence of the Little Sisters of the Poor in San Pedro, on Dec. 17, followed by burial at All Souls Cemetery, Long Beach, Calif.
