Diocese to celebrate the Nationwide Day of Prayer

PROVIDENCE — On the Nationwide Day of Prayer, Saturday, April 29, pro-lifers will hold simultaneous peaceful vigils at Planned Parenthood centers across the United States. Pastoral Care Fundraiser to benefit pro-life ministries

PAWTUCKET — The sixth annual Pastoral Care Fundraiser will take place on Saturday, April 22, beginning at 6 p.m., at St. John Paul II Church, 1253 Newport Ave. Italian Dinner, dessert and coffee will be served. A cash bar will be available serving wine, beer and soda. There will be a 50/50 raffle and penny social. St. Agnes Church announces Lenten Mass schedule and Pasta Supper

PROVIDENCE — The Lenten schedule for St. Agnes Church, 351 Branch Ave., is as follows: Weekday Masses during Lent will be celebrated on Mondays and Fridays at noon. Stations of the Cross will be held on Tuesdays during Lent at 7 p.m., following the 6 p.m. St. Jude Novena.

Clam cakes and chowder dinner to be offered at St. Mary Church

Tenebrae and Three Hours of Mercy to be observed at St. Mary Church

WEST WARWICK — St. Mary Church, 70 Church St., will observe Tenebrae on Wednesday, April 12, in the church. Tenebrae, or the Office of Shadows, recalls the night that Judas arranged for the betrayal of Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. This moving, interactive and prayerful event will take place at 7 p.m. The service may not be suitable for small children. Periods of darkness and loud, frightening sounds accompany this ceremony. Join in remembrance of Christ’s painful passion and great sacrifice. St. Mary Church, will also observe the Three Hours of Mercy on Sunday, April 23, from noon – 3 p.m. The Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, Rosary, Litany of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and other devotionals will be prayed throughout the afternoon. The Sacrament of Reconciliation will also be made available. The Divine Mercy Chaplet will be sung at 3 p.m. concluding with Benediction. All are welcome. Parish Dinner Dance, Silent Auction scheduled at Crowne Plaza

WARWICK — St. Bartholomew Church will commemorate its annual Parish Dinner Dance on Saturday, April 29, at 7 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza. Music will be provided by “Ambrosiani.” A Silent Auction will also be held that evening for those who wish to participate and bid on the many great items. St. Thomas More to lead Stations in the Streets

NARRAGANSETT — St. Thomas More Parish will host their annual Stations in the Streets on Good Friday, April 14, at noon. The procession will begin inside the church at 53 Rockland St., with an opening prayer from Father Marcel Taillon, and will continue through the streets of Narragansett via Ocean Road along the sea wall and under the Narragansett Towers. As they carry the cross of Jesus, confirmation students will be praying 13 stations before reentering the church for the fourteenth station. This event will be held rain or shine.

Parish to host annual Seder supper

WARWICK — St. Benedict Parish will host its annual Seder supper led by Father Roland L. Simoneau, on Tuesday, April 11, at 6 p.m. in the parish hall, 70 Transit St. Tickets are free for children under 10 and are on sale after all Masses and during the week at the rectory office. Maestro to present ‘Songs of the Resurrection’

HARRISVILLE — Maestro John Black, a composer, as well as an organist and choir director at several Catholic churches in the diocese, will present a hymn sing and organ concert to benefit the preservation of the historic First Universalist Church. ‘Songs of the Resurrection’ is being organized as an evening of fun and inspiration to help preserve the historic landmark, which is slated to become a historical museum and multi-use facility. The event will be held on Palm Sunday evening, April 9 at 6:15 p.m., at 134 Harrisville Main St., and will feature a historical display and refreshments. A free will offering is appreciated. Our Lady of Sorrows Bereavement Support Group offered

NORTH PROVIDENCE — The Our Lady of Sorrows Bereavement Support Group, offered by the Office of Life and Family, will be held at St. Anthony Church, Parish Center, Pope St., Thursday evenings, May 4 through June 22, 7 - 8:30 p.m. This eight week support group provides a peaceful environment for people to learn about grief and to share their experiences, thoughts and feelings, all with the spiritual comfort of our Catholic faith. This group will be facilitated by the St. Pius V Bereavement Ministry and is most appropriate for adults at least three months beyond their loss. St. John Vianney Church to offer spiritual retreat for grieving parents

CUMBERLAND — On Saturday, April 29, St. John Vianney Church, 3609 Diamond Hill Road, will offer a one-day spiritual retreat for grieving parents from 9:30 a.m. - 7:30 p.m. The retreat is open to anyone whose child of any age has died by any cause, no matter how long ago. This retreat is offered in cooperation with the Emmaus Ministry for Grieving Parents, a unique, ongoing Catholic program serving the spiritual needs of grieving parents. Daughters of Isabella to host spring fundraiser

St. Pius to organize Seven Church Tour on Holy Thursday

PROVIDENCE — All are invited to join St. Pius V Church for the ancient tradition of keeping watch with our Lord on Holy Thursday while He endures His imprisonment by visiting seven churches in Providence. Mass of the Lord’s Supper at St. Pius V will begin at 7:30 p.m. and then two buses will depart from the front of the church at 9 p.m. for the Seven Church Tour and return to St. Pius V by 11 p.m. The buses hold 50 people each. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will begin at 2 p.m. and the Divine Mercy Image will be blessed. The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be available from 2 - 3 p.m., the Chaplet of Divine Mercy will be sung at 3 p.m. and the rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. followed by Benediction. Mass will be celebrated at 5 p.m.
