Diocese to celebrate the Nationwide Day of Prayer

PROVIDENCE — On the Nationwide Day of Prayer, Saturday, April 29, pro-lifers will hold simultaneous peaceful vigils at Planned Parenthood centers across the United States. Pastoral Care Fundraiser to benefit pro-life ministries

PAWTUCKET — The sixth annual Pastoral Care Fundraiser will take place on Saturday, April 22, beginning at 6 p.m., at St. John Paul II Church, 1253 Newport Ave. An Italian dinner, dessert and coffee will be served. A cash bar will be available serving wine, beer and soda. There will be a 50/50 raffle and penny social. Parish Dinner Dance, Silent Auction scheduled at Crowne Plaza

St. Thomas More to lead Stations in the Streets

NARRAGANSETT — St. Thomas More Parish will host their annual Stations in the Streets on Good Friday, April 14, at noon. The procession will begin inside the church at 53 Rockland St., with an opening prayer from Father Marcel Taillon, and will continue through the streets of Narragansett via Ocean Road along the sea wall and under the Narragansett Towers. As they carry the cross of Jesus, confirmation students will be praying 13 stations before reentering the church for the 14th station. This event will be held rain or shine.

Our Lady of Sorrows Bereavement Support Group offered

NORTH PROVIDENCE — The Our Lady of Sorrows Bereavement Support Group, offered by the Office of Life and Family, will be held at the St. Anthony Church Parish Center, Pope St., Thursday evenings, May 4 through June 22, 7 - 8:30 p.m. This eight-week support group provides a peaceful environment for people to learn about grief and to share their experiences, thoughts and feelings, all with the spiritual comfort of our Catholic faith. This group will be facilitated by the St. Pius V Bereavement Ministry and is most appropriate for adults at least three months beyond their loss. St. John Vianney Church to offer spiritual retreat for grieving parents

CUMBERLAND — On Saturday, April 29, St. John Vianney Church, 3609 Diamond Hill Road, will offer a one-day spiritual retreat for grieving parents from 9:30 a.m. - 7:30 p.m. The retreat is open to anyone whose child of any age has died by any cause, no matter how long ago. This retreat is offered in cooperation with the Emmaus Ministry for Grieving Parents, a unique, ongoing Catholic program serving the spiritual needs of grieving parents. Daughters of Isabella to host spring fundraiser

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will begin at 2 p.m. and the Divine Mercy Image will be blessed. The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be available from 2 - 3 p.m., the Chaplet of Divine Mercy will be sung at 3 p.m. and the rosary will be recited at 4 p.m., followed by Benediction. Mass will be celebrated at 5 p.m.

Program to enrich journey of the sacrament of marriage

WARWICK— The Diocese of Providence, Office of Life and Family, is pleased to announce the “To Love and To Cherish” program for Catholic marriages. The program embraces the Catholic Church’s teachings on marriage and provides topics and discussions designed to enrich and strengthen the sacramental journey of marriage in a sharing group environment. Mass for Recovery scheduled

PORTSMOUTH — The next Mass for Recovery is scheduled for Sunday, April 30, at 5 p.m. at St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road. All are welcome. This quarterly Mass is part of the St. Matthias Ministry of the Diocese of Providence. It focuses on assisting with prayer and encouragement to all who are recovering from addictions of any kind, as well as those suffering from any mental or emotional distress or anxiety. Servants of Christ for Life to organize Spring Rosary Novena

PROVIDENCE — Beginning April 22, all are invited to join Servants of Christ for Life for their Spring Rosary Novena. A Mass will begin the day at Our Lady of the Rosary at 8 a.m. Following Mass, many will gather in front of Planned Parenthood in Providence for nine consecutive Saturday mornings to pray three Mysteries of the Rosary from 8:30 - 9:30 a.m. The Novena runs April 22 - June 17. Knights to host Portuguese breakfast

Learn to build bridges, not walls

ATTLEBORO, Mass. — Pax Christi-LaSalette and Pax Christi-RI, international Catholic organizations dedicated to promoting peace and justice by prayer, study and action, are presenting “Build Bridges Not Walls,” on Tuesday, April 25 at the National Shrine of Our Lady of La Salette Welcome Center, 947 Park St., Attleboro. Imam Abdul Rahman Ahmad of the Islamic Center in Sharon, Massachusetts will speak about Muslim culture and religion, challenging common misconceptions. Dr. Umer Akbar will speak about how AHOPE-RI assists with the resettlement of refugees in the greater Providence area, and how we can help welcome refugees from areas of conflict. Divine Mercy Sunday with special guest

PORTSMOUTH — The next meeting of the Hope and Cope Group is Sunday, April 23, at 5 p.m., at St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road. Hope and Cope is a faith-based support group intended for those struggling with or supporting a family member or a friend struggling with alcohol or drug addictions or mental distress and is open to everyone interested in this ministry.
