Friends’ Fund Dinner Auction to benefit SVDP RI

NORTH KINGSTOWN — The Friends of Saint Vincent de Paul, Rhode Island, are hosting a Dinner Auction to benefit the organization that in 2016 provided $2.3 million worth of food and nearly $1 million in direct aid to Rhode Island families in need for electricity, food, clothing and more. Also during the event, two members of the Society and Bishop Thomas J. Tobin will be honored with the Fredric Ozanam Lifetime Achievement Award for their donation and service to the poor. Proceeds from Friends’ Fund Benefit will help SVDP’s 34 parish-based conferences which continue to serve Rhode Islanders by helping to meet basic human needs, such as housing and heat. Local church to offer spiritual retreat for grieving parents

CUMBERLAND — On Saturday, April 29, St. John Vianney Church, 3609 Diamond Hill Road, will offer a one-day spiritual retreat for grieving parents from 9:30 a.m. - 7:30 p.m. The retreat is open to anyone whose child of any age has died by any cause, no matter how long ago. All are welcome, regardless of situation or religion. This retreat is offered in cooperation with the Emmaus Ministry for Grieving Parents, a unique, ongoing Catholic program serving the spiritual needs of grieving parents. Program to enrich journey of the sacrament of marriage

WARWICK— The Diocese of Providence’s Office of Life and Family, is pleased to announce the “To Love and To Cherish” program for Catholic marriages. The program embraces the Catholic Church’s teachings on marriage and provides topics and discussions designed to enrich and strengthen the sacramental journey of marriage in a sharing group environment. PORTSMOUTH — The next Mass for Recovery is scheduled for Sunday, April 30, at 5 p.m. at St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road. All are welcome. This quarterly Mass is part of the St. Matthias Ministry of the Diocese of Providence. It focuses on assisting with prayer and encouragement to all who are recovering from addictions of any kind, as well as those suffering from any mental or emotional distress or anxiety. It is also for those who are friends and family of those in recovery, as they too benefit from coming together in prayer and praise of our God who brings healing to all. Annual dinner to benefit Soup Kitchen

WEST WARWICK — The West Bay District St. Vincent de Paul Society will be holding its Ninth Annual Pat Collins Dinner to raise money for the Soup Kitchen, which is held each Saturday at the West Warwick Senior Center. The event will take place on April 30 at the Senior Center. Meal choices are baked fish or pork loin at $22 a ticket. Servants of Christ for Life to organize Spring Rosary Novena

PROVIDENCE — All are invited to join Servants of Christ for Life for their Spring Rosary Novena. A Mass will begin the day at Our Lady of the Rosary at 8 a.m. Following Mass, many will gather in front of Planned Parenthood in Providence for nine consecutive Saturday mornings to pray three Mysteries of the Rosary from 8:30 - 9:30 a.m. The Novena runs April 22 - June 17. Holy Spirit to hold ‘Springtime Festival’

CENTRAL FALLS — Holy Spirit Parish will hold a ‘Springtime Festival’ on Friday, May 5, from 5 p.m. - 10 p.m., and Saturday, May 6, from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. The event will be held in the church hall at 1030 Dexter St., and the funds raised will be used to help pay for parish expenses. Various games of chance and many interesting booths have been organized to offer something for people of all ages and tastes. Families will have more than 25 activities to choose from and enjoy, including Loteria (Spanish-style Bingo), roll-ups, a Penny Social, a $2,500 Money Prize Raffle and a new horse race game. This year, there will be a raffle for an Amazon Echo. The event will feature many fun activities for children as well, including basketball, a duck pond and a fishing boat.
