Friends’ Fund Dinner Auction to benefit SVDP RI

NORTH KINGSTOWN — The Friends of Saint Vincent de Paul, Rhode Island, are hosting a Dinner Auction to benefit the organization that in 2016 provided $2.3 million worth of food and nearly $1 million in direct aid to Rhode Island families in need for electricity, food, clothing and more. Also during the event, two members of the Society and Bishop Thomas J. Tobin will be honored with the Fredric Ozanam Lifetime Achievement Award for their donation and service to the poor. Proceeds from Friends’ Fund Benefit will help SVDP’s 34 parish-based conferences which continue to serve Rhode Islanders by helping to meet basic human needs, such as housing and heat. St. Alexander Church to host May Breakfast

WARREN — St. Alexander Church, 221 Main St., will host a May Breakfast on Sunday, May 7, from 10 a.m. - noon. The menu will include eggs, sausage, ham, homemade homefries, a waffle station, breads and muffins, fruit, juice, coffee and other items. Tickets are available at the door.

Servants of Christ for Life to organize Spring Rosary Novena

PROVIDENCE — All are invited to join Servants of Christ for Life for their Spring Rosary Novena. A Mass will begin the day at Our Lady of the Rosary at 8 a.m. Following Mass, many will gather in front of Planned Parenthood in Providence for nine consecutive Saturday mornings to pray three Mysteries of the Rosary from 8:30 - 9:30 a.m. The Novena runs April 22 - June 17. Holy Spirit to hold ‘Springtime Festival’

CENTRAL FALLS — Holy Spirit Parish will hold a ‘Springtime Festival’ on Friday, May 5, from 5 p.m. - 10 p.m., and Saturday, May 6, from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. The event will be held in the church hall at 1030 Dexter St., and the funds raised will be used to help pay for parish expenses. Various games of chance and many interesting booths have been organized to offer something for people of all ages and tastes. Families will have more than 25 activities to choose from and enjoy, including Loteria (Spanish-style Bingo), roll-ups, a Penny Social, a $2,500 Money Prize Raffle and a new horse race game. This year, there will be a raffle for an Amazon Echo. The event will feature many fun activities for children as well, including basketball, a duck pond and a fishing boat. Kitchen Corner offerings will include the annual Friday special clam cakes and chowder, as well as hamburgers, hot dogs, empanadas and tacos on both nights. For more information, call 722-3717.

Novena Service to be held Tuesdays in May

JOHNSTON — St. Rocco Church will honor the month of the Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary with a Novena Service each Tuesday evening during May. Commencing at 7 p.m. in the church at 927 Atwood Ave., the service will include Rosary and Novena prayers and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. All are welcome to participate. ‘Love and Faith in the Time of Trump’ discussion at St. Pius V Church

PROVIDENCE — On Thursday, May 18, from 8 – 9 p.m., St. Pius V Young Adults will host a talk by Kathryn Jean Lopez entitled “Love and Faith in the Time of Trump,” in the church hall. Kathryn Jean Lopez is a senior fellow at the National Review Institute and editor-at-large of National Review. Besides National Review and NRO, her work has appeared in The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Times, The Women’s Quarterly, The National Catholic Register, Our Sunday Visitor, American Outlook, New York Press, and The Human Life Review, among other publications. Seminars will discuss the dangers of pornography

PROVIDENCE — All are invited to take part in an informative and enlightening seminar on the dangers of pornography. The seminar sessions will take place in St. Patrick Academy gym and Mass will be celebrated in the church. On Tuesday, May 9, at 7 p.m., Dr. Michael Hanson, a licensed psychologist who currently serves as the Director of Human Formation for the Diocese of Providence, and has also had clinical experience supporting individuals who struggle with pornography in his counseling work, will present on “The Psychological Dangers of Pornography.” On Tuesday, May 16, at 7 p.m., Detective Robert Cardente will present “Internet and Social Media Dangers.” Detective Cardente has been a member of the Pawtucket Police Department for the past 18 years and currently works in the Major Crime Unit. He is assigned to the Rhode Island Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and investigates computer related crimes involving child pornography and child exploitation. On Tuesday, May 23, at 7 p.m., Mary Welch and Peter Magnotta, will present “Pathways of Hope to Healing.” Welch is a licensed clinical social worker who counsels children, adolescents and adults. Magnotta is a social worker for the Diocese of Providence’s Office of Life and Family, and has 20 years of experience in the field of mental health, including the areas of management, program development, supervision, general support and counseling. On Tuesday, May 30, at 7 p.m., Mass will be celebrated with the intention to pray for children and for all who find themselves in the throes of pornography. Our Lady of Loreto Church to host May Breakfast

EAST PROVIDENCE — The Social Ministry/Respect Life Committee of Our Lady of Loreto Church will host a May Breakfast on Sunday, May 21 from 9 to noon. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12. The menu will include scrambled eggs, ham, sausage, home fries, pancakes, fruit cup, breakfast pastries, juice and tea. Tickets will be on sale on the weekends of May 6 -7, 13 -14, and at all Masses. Tickets may also be purchased by contacting the parish office at 434-3535. CUMBERLAND — St. Joseph Church, 1303 Mendon Road, will host its annual Chopstick Auction on Friday, May 5, at 7 p.m., with the kitchen opening at 5 p.m. The auction will feature more than 100 prizes, special raffles and split the pot. Knights of Columbus will host breakfast to benefit food pantry

NORTH KINGSTOWN — The Knights of Columbus will hold a breakfast at the council hall, 1265 Tower Hill Road, on Sunday, May 7, from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Scrambled eggs, French toast, home fries, baked beans, corned beef hash, hot and cold cereal, orange juice, coffee and tea will be served. The cost is $10.00, $4.00 for children 12 and under; children 6 and under are free. Please bring in a non-perishable food donation for the food pantry.

Rosary Rally in honor of 100th Anniversary of Fatima

NORTH KINGSTOWN — All are invited to join in a Public Square Rosary on May 13, from noon until 1 p.m. at St. Bernard’s Church, 275 Tower Hill Road. The Rosary Rally will be one of thousands of rallies taking place all across the United States. It was on May 13, 1917, that Our Lady first appeared to the three shepherd children in Fatima, Portugal.
