WASHINGTON (CNS) - Pope Benedict XVI has named Bishop George V. Murry of St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands to head the Diocese of Youngstown, Ohio. Bishop Murry, 58, succeeds Bishop Thomas J. Tobin, who was appointed bishop of Providence in March 2005. The appointment was announced Jan. 30 in Washington by Archbishop Pietro Sambi, apostolic nuncio to the United States.
Bishop Tobin said he was pleased with the appointment. "I am delighted to receive the news of the appointment of Bishop Murry as the new bishop of Youngstown. I know Bishop Murry to be a dedicated, intelligent and articulate servant of the church. His appointment is good news for the clergy, religious and laity of the diocese.
"I pray that God will bless Bishop Murry and all of the people of the church in Youngstown as they begin their new journey together," the bishop said.
