Bishop doing his job as moral teacher

Posted

TO THE EDITOR:

Bishop Tobin did his job as a moral teacher speaking out against Catholic participation in the Pride parade without being condemning or uncharitable. Some like to change the subject to church scandals even though we live in a diocese that calls the police following every accusation and takes action following accusations deemed credible. Some want to undermine the Bishop’s authority by referring to his episcopacy in Pennsylvania yet not only was he not mentioned in that abuse report, he wasn’t even interviewed. Expecting him as auxiliary bishop, not charged with dealing with such accusations, to comment and take action on accusations reported to a separate diocesan office makes about as much sense as expecting a police narcotics unit head who hears about a police brutality charge filed with the internal affairs unit to make public statements about them and announce that he is now in charge of the investigation!
