PORTSMOUTH — On December 12, the Portsmouth Abbey School community gathered to witness the simple profession of Brother Benedict Maria. The Church of Saint Gregory the Great was filled with students, faculty, staff, community members and family as Brother Benedict professed his vows of stability to Portsmouth Abbey.

Father Michael Brunner, O.S.B. delivered the homily about Brother Benedict's choice and the impact it will have on the Portsmouth Abbey community.

“Brother Benedict Maria is among us today because of his choice, because he has chosen us and chosen to be here, said Father Brunner. “This is not a call to give up his life in a single moment of sacrifice, but to live his life, giving every moment, every day for the rest of his life. He has been tested for the last year and he has passed his year of testing with flying colors. Today he will promise to give his life to us and to you unreservedly, for the next three years. Brother Benedict is a saint in the making.”

Father Michael then performed the Interrogation of the Candidate and then the Rite of Simple Profession. Brother Benedict proclaimed his vows, signed the Profession Document, and the entire community joined in prayer.
