A Year with Mary Our Mother

Celebrating the Feast of Our Lady of Divine Providence

PROVIDENCE — Bishop Thomas J. Tobin celebrated the Diocesan patroness Feast Day for Our Lady of Divine Providence on Sunday, November 19.

Our Lady of Divine Providence is often associated with the Gospel passage of the Wedding Feast of Cana, when Mary interceded with Jesus on the newlywed’s behalf.

“Mary provides for all the needs of the Church, as our mother, she cares for each of her children,” Bishop Tobin emphasized in his homily. She walks with us every day, as we travel through our valley of tears. Our worries become her worries and anxieties. She wants us to do well, to be holy and to be happy. Mary is a source and instrument of God’s Providence and His care in our daily lives.”

Among those present at the Mass were volunteers for the Diocesan Marriage Ministry, to whom the Bishop extended a warm welcome and words of gratitude for their service with marriage preparation, natural family planning and marriage enrichment, stating “Your work is important and appreciated…be assured you are helping and making a difference.”

Our Lady of Divine Providence has a great influence on the marriage ministry, as well as all couples entering the sacrament of marriage.

As the Mass participants gazed upon the image of Our Lady of Divine Providence, Bishop Tobin invited all to witness Our Lady’s fingers intertwined in the Christ Child’s, a scene which speaks to us of the loving trust we may find in our Blessed Mother, as she turns to Jesus on our behalf.
