Christus Vincit

Posted

As we enter this week into the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ, our focus starts on Palm Sunday, with the crowds welcoming Jesus into Jerusalem. Over the course of the next five days their shouts towards Jesus change, from one of “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord” to another five days later to “Crucify Him!” The night of the Last Supper, Our Blessed Lord institutes the Priesthood and the Eucharist. He opens up his heart to all of the disciples and prepares them for the challenges ahead that they will face as they go forth and preach the Gospel.

As the Lord and His disciples head towards the Garden of Gethsemane, the beginning of Our Lord’s Passion starts to take effect as his life is slowly drained out one drop of blood at a time. The wages of sin is death and the Lord Jesus Christ bears the weight of our sins through every blow of a punch, scourge of a whip, crowning with thorns and endless ridicule, without any reprieve.

As he mounts the pulpit of the Cross for the last time, Our Lord Jesus Christ, hanging between Heaven and Earth, preaches his greatest sermon ever. He calls for the forgiveness of sins to the Father and completes that act of sacrifice by offering Himself as Priest and Victim for our redemption. Three days later He rose from the dead and therefore, we are justified, freed and restored in a new relationship to the Father. Christ conquered Satan and death, and through his wounds we are healed. Christus Vincit, Christus Regnat and Christus Imperat! (Christ conquers, Christ Reigns and Christ Commands!)
