Deacon Robert F. McAdam

PROVIDENCE - Deacon Robert F. McAdam, 78, of Basswood Avenue, Providence, died Monday, September 18, 2017 at the Hope Hospice Inpatient Center. He was the husband of Antonia T. (Scardera) McAdam. They were married for 48 years. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Angus and Madeline (Hurley) McAdam. Deacon McAdam was a teacher in the Providence School Department for 30 years.

He served in the U.S. Army as a First Lieutenant for the Military Police. He was a deacon for the Diocese of Providence for 40 years and was a member of the original diaconate class in 1976, a member of the American Legion, and the Smithfield Senior Center. He was a collector of model firetrucks.

Besides his wife he is survived by his children: Mary Dean and her husband, Jeff of Lunenburg, Massachusetts; Ann McAdam Griffin and her husband, Bob of Houston; Robert McAdam and his wife, Regina, of Barrington; Sister Ellen McAdam, SND, of Worcester; Kate McAdam-Prickett and her husband, Chuck, of Johnston; and his grandchildren: Chaylee and Evelyn McAdam, Theresa and Elena Dean, Liam and Meredith Griffin and Madeline and Elizabeth Prickett and his sister, Sister Madeline McAdam, SND, of Windsor, Connecticut. He was the brother of the late Mary Anderson and Angus “Jack” McAdam.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on September 22 in St. Augustine Church, Providence, with burial in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Cranston. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, the Julie House at 425 Poquonock Avenue, Windsor, Connecticut, 06095, or Notre Dame du Lac at 555 Plantation Street, Worcester, MA 01605.
