PROVIDENCE – The Diocese of Providence today announced the launch of a newly designed Web site. The new Web site includes a number of new and improved features designed to provide visitors with easy access to information about the faith, charitable works and news of the Catholic Church in Rhode Island.

The new site, www.dioceseofprovidence.org, was designed by Advertising Ventures, a marketing firm with expertise in interactive Web site design.

“During the many listening sessions I attended upon my arrival in Rhode Island, the need for increased communications was a common topic of discussion,” said Bishop Tobin. “This new Web site is but one of many tools we are using to share the message of Christ, his church and the many charitable acts of the Catholic Church in Rhode Island with the local community. Additionally, the new site includes important information about how those in need may obtain assistance from any one of our many charitable ministries.”

The new Web site hosts a number of new features including a video welcome message from the bishop, streamlined navigation, and a media room to view diocesan television programming. A diocesan office directory has also been added. Additionally, the home page features italicized text below a large impact image, both of which will rotate on a weekly basis, highlighting a daily Scripture reading or statement relevant to the church’s position on a current issue.

The Web site provides visitors with an easier means to access information relative to how those in need may learn about and apply for assistance through the many social ministry opportunities like the Interfaith Dire Emergency Fund or the Cabrini Childcare Scholarship Fund.

Another new feature, the media room, provides visitors with on-demand programming produced by the diocesan telecommunications office. Some of these programs include a documentary of the life of founding diocesan bishop, the Most Rev. Thomas Hendricken, a program about senior priests, Cathedral performances by the Gregorian Concert Choir, and commercials produced for the Seminary Awareness Campaign. Additional programming will be added as they are completed.

Former features are also included in the new site including a news archive, information about youth and family ministries, as well as a parish directory and information about former bishops who led or reside in the Diocese of Providence.

Soon, a new user-friendly event calendar will be added that enables those throughout the diocese to post events using a simple web-based interface, creating a calendar-based events resource to research events at any one of the 150 parishes and 52 schools throughout the diocese.

“I am proud of this new tool that will easily provide important information to those interested in the work of the Church,” added Bishop Tobin.
