Ernest B. Marot, 82

PAWTUCKET – Ernest B. Marot, 82, died April 26. He was the beloved husband of Rita F. (Sevigny) Marot for 62 years. and brother of Father Roger Marot. A lifelong resident of Pawtucket, he was a son of the late Armand J. and Alice (Cote) Marot.

He was a faculty chef at Providence College for 16 years before retiring in 1993, and previously a bartender and function manager at the East Side Checker Club for 10 years. He was also employed by Swank, Inc. for over 25 years. He enjoyed serving as a Little League coach and scout leader, and raised funds for the Ladd School, CYO, Meeting Street School, and other worthy causes.

After retiring from employment, he fulfilled a lifelong dream of feeding the hungry by founding the Pawtucket Soup Kitchen which he ran for more than 16 years with many volunteers. He was a Pawtucket Hall of Fame Inductee in 1995; recipient of the Jefferson Award and a member of Kiwanis.

In addition to his wife and Father Marot, he is survived by three children, Anne-Marie Sullivan, Mark Marot and Lynda Salois; two sisters, Aline LeClair and Lorraine Fournier; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late Raymond Marot and Lorraine Riley, and the brother of the late Lucille Cheltra, Dr. George Marot, Normand Marot and Anita Tousignant.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated May 2 at St. Cecilia Church, Pawtucket. Burial was in Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket.
