TO THE EDITOR:
I was disappointed in the R.I. Catholic editorial and the article by George Weigel regarding the Netflix movie ‘The Two Popes’ in the Jan. 23 edition. While there were probably some inaccuracies, I, my wife, my patients and others I have talked with about the movie felt that it portrayed both men in a very positive light, as well as the Catholic Church. People do see clergy and lay people in the church as liberal or conservative even if that is not the way the papacy is decided. Focusing only on the problems and deriding the acting as cartoon performances should not be the sole focus of an analysis of the film.
