Gallup Poll: Majority of citizens reject abortion-on-demand

Posted

In recent years, there’s been a slight but significant shift in the attitudes of many Americans concerning the issue of abortion. This positive shift was confirmed on June 11, when the people at Gallup released the results of their latest poll on the subject. According to this most recent survey, as many Americans identify as “pro-life” (48 percent) as “pro-choice” (48 percent).

That’s a big improvement from the results of Gallup’s first poll on the issue back in the mid-1990s, when 56 percent identified themselves as “pro-choice,” and only 33 percent claimed to be “pro-life.” Even more importantly, more Americans now believe that abortion is morally wrong (48 percent) than believe it’s morally acceptable (43 percent). Furthermore, since 53 percent of those surveyed said that abortion should be legal in only a few circumstances (35 percent) or in no circumstances (18 percent), it’s clear that the majority of our citizens currently reject abortion-on-demand, as legalized by the Roe v. Wade decision of 1973.

While these numbers are certainly not all that pro-lifers would like them to be, they do indicate that more and more Americans are recognizing what should be an obvious truth to all: that abortion kills an innocent human life and should not be legal in the United States of America.

Or anywhere else in the world.
