La Salle Academy student named National Merit Scholarship Finalist

On Feb. 12, La Salle Academy announced that the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) has recognized William B. Bartel as a finalist in this year’s competition. Bartel was one of approximately 16,000 semifinalists who competed for one of the 7,500 National Merit Scholarships. A news release from the school states, “To be named a National Merit Scholarship Finalist is a great achievement, especially considering the rigor and competition in schools across the country. William’s exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies paired with his values, character and leadership are a tremendous source of pride for our school community.” As a finalist, Bartel will have the opportunity to continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships worth more than $31 million that will be offered in the spring. The selection of some 7,500 Merit Scholarship winners from the group of more than 15,000 finalists is now in progress. In March, NMSC will begin mailing scholarship offers to winners.
