LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Leave judgement of Trump to God where it belongs

To the Editor:

As a Catholic, I am disappointed and saddened by the negative opinions of President Trump expressed by letter writers in the last edition. The harsh criticisms neglect the accomplishments of this president and his positive qualities. I suspect this is due to the plethora of attacks against him and his family since he was elected, which the media continues to fuel. They blame him for everything. In short, he can do nothing right. Is he a man who sins? Yes, and so are we! I urge all Christians to put aside the judging of this man and judge his accomplishments instead. To name just a few: His recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel which so many previous presidents said they would do, but never did; his strong stance on Pro-Life issues and religious freedom, including being the first president to address the March for Life group which so many of Rhode Island’s Catholics attended. These accomplishments are in addition to restoring a vibrant economy to our country that benefited all citizens and improved the lives of so many. Of lasting importance is his appointment of two Supreme Court justices. Brett Kavanaugh is Catholic and is a regular lector at his church, the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Washington, D.C. Neil Gorsuch is Episcopalian and attended Christ the King Catholic School. In closing, I once again urge all of us to judge the accomplishments of this president and leave the judgment of this man to God, where it rightly belongs.
