PROVIDENCE – The Diocese of Providence’s Office of Communications has announced the airing of a concert by the Gregorian Concert Choir and Festival Orchestra, under the direction of Father Anthony Mancini, honoring its former music director, the late Dr. C. Alexander Peloquin.

The concert will air on the Rhode Island Catholic Hour on Tuesday, September 4 at 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Cox Channel 14 and Full Channel 59.

The concert, sponsored by the American Guild of Organists, was held June 26 in the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul in Providence.

Peloquin was the music director at the cathedral for more than 40 years. He began performing on a weekly radio program at the age of 11. He traveled throughout Europe during World War II, performing for American service people.

He even considered a vocation to the priesthood, later deciding that his call was to use his talents for music and service to the Lord.

He composed the first Mass sung in English following reforms of Vatican II, the popular Gloria of the Bells, L'Hymne de l'Univers for the closing ceremonies of Montreal Expo '67, and in 1968, composed Four Freedom Song in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
