PROVIDENCE — Providence College (PC) announced on March 14 that Junielly Vargas of Lawrence, Massachusetts, a member of the class of 2021, has been chosen as a Newman Civic Fellow by Campus Compact.
The Newman Civic Fellowship is a yearlong program that recognizes and supports community-committed students who have demonstrated an investment in finding solutions for challenges facing communities throughout the country. Campus Compact, a Boston-based non-profit organization working to advance the public purposes of higher education, recently announced the 273 students who will make up the organization’s 2019 cohort of Newman Civic Fellows.
Vargas is a Psychology and Public and Community Services double major at PC with a minor in Business Innovation. She is involved with her local YMCA, serves as the President on her local Youth City Council, and is on the Executive Board of the Organization of Latin American Students at PC as well as the Board of Representatives.
Campus Compact member presidents and chancellors are annually invited to nominate one community-committed student from their institution for the fellowship. These are individuals who have demonstrated an investment in finding solutions for challenges facing communities throughout the country and abroad.
