Recalling Fr. Halloran’s compassion for wife

To the Editor:

[In response to the article July 12, Fr. John Halloran: ‘Servant priest’ eager for what lies ahead]: I met Father John Halloran after a 7 a.m. Mass at Saint Mary Star of the Sea in Narragansett in the early 1980s.

I told him my wife was gravely ill and asked him to remember her in his prayers. He asked me her name and the hospital where she was a patient.

I was at Miriam Hospital in Pawtucket the next day at 7:30 a.m. sitting outside the Intensive Care Unit when the door opened, and out walked Father Halloran. He had driven up from Narragansett very early to give my wife his presence and blessing. After Father's visit and good medication decisions, my wife started on a long, full recovery. Her nurses named her "The Miracle of Miriam." Thanks again, Father.
