Robert Baldwin, Former Providence Visitor editor

NEWCASTLE, Me. — Robert Baldwin, 73, the former editor of The Providence Visitor, now The Rhode Island Catholic, died November 25 at home. He was the husband of Annabelle Baldwin.

Born in Norfolk, Va., he was the son of the late A. Stuart and Sarah (Laird) Baldwin. He was a former reporter for the Greensboro Record, Greensboro, N.C. and The Providence Journal. He served as editor of The Providence Visitor during the 1970s and early 1980s, before moving to Maine, where he wrote magazine articles and authored several books, including “The End of the World: A Catholic View” and an award-winning children’s book “This is the Sea that Feeds Us.” At the time of his death he was writing his memoirs.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Sarah Alexander of South Thomaston, Me., Holly Baldwin of Boston and Elizabeth Rowe of Bloomington, Ind.; a sister, Sally Baldwin of Belfast, Me.; and a brother, Laird Baldwin of Wytheville, Va.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on December 15 at St. Denis Church, Whitefield, Me.
