Rosemary Soares Richardson

WEST WARWICK — Rosemary Soares Richardson, 84, passed away with family by her side on Monday, Feb. 4, 2019 at home in West Warwick. She was predeceased by her husband John F. Soares in 1996 and David A. Richardson in 2015. She was born in Providence, September 20, 1934 to the late Thomas A. and Marcelle F. (Charreyron) Dowd.

She retired from Tyco Inc., formerly Kendall Health Care, of Mansfield, Massachusetts, in 1998. She was a member of Ocean State Woman’s Golf Association where she proudly held the only hole-in-one in the OSWGA golf tournament at the age of 71.

In her younger years she enjoyed running, biking, cross country skiing and took up golf at the age of 48.

She was a devoted mother of five boys where she committed her time following them in their wrestling matches, little league, soccer and football games throughout their days of school and college. She was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Gregory the Great Church in Warwick.

She leaves five sons: Thomas J. Soares (Jeanne), James F. Soares (Kathleen), Stephen M. Soares, Robert E. Soares (Donna) all of Warwick and Rev. John P. Soares, Pastor of St. Thomas Church/Holy Cross in Providence. She leaves seven grandchildren, one who is deceased, Emma Soares; five great-grandchildren and three step-children: Stephen Cook (Theresa), Michael Cook (Claire) and Susan Imparato (Allen); six step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. She was the sister of Marcelle A. Gillen, Robert Dowd and the late Janine St. Jean.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Gregory The Great Church, on Saturday, February 9 with burial at Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery in Exeter.
