EAST PROVIDENCE — Recently retired Father Peter Di Tullio SdC, former pastor of Sacred Heart Church, was presented with a plaque in his honor to be mounted at the main entrance of Sacred Heart School, prior to returning to his home country of Italy.

“Father Peter,” as he is fondly called, a Guanellian priest, has been pastor and assistant pastor at Sacred Heart since 1987. During his 32-year tenure, he was an enthusiastic and tireless booster of the parish school.

Principal Mo Guernon presented Father Peter with an engraved plaque displaying his photograph along with the following inscription:“With gratitude Sacred Heart School honors, Father Peter Di Tullio, SdC, for his relentless commitment to education according to the charism of St. Louis Guanella.”

A number of faculty members and school staff were on hand to witness the brief ceremony and to bid the popular priest a personal farewell.

Along with Guernon, school employees who attended were Terry Carvalho, Sharon Chalmers, Rosa Costa, Philip Desrosiers, Emmanuel Furtado, Jo Anne LaPietra, Emily DaSilva, and Marianne Scanlon. In addition, parishioners Carl La Pietra and Gabrielle Costa were in attendance.

“There are no words adequate to thank you for all the support that you have provided over the decades to make and keep Sacred Heart a sterling school and a vibrant Catholic community,” said Guernon.“As you prepare to return home, this plaque, greeting all who arrive at the main entrance to the building, will ensure that your selfless and continuous contributions to our school over decades will be fondly remembered and appreciated.
