Should those who need it the most be excluded from Communion?
TO THE EDITOR:
We still get together these many years for our weekly coffee and to discuss the events of the past few days. One topic of discussion this week was of the Providence Journal article about Father Bucci, pastor of Sacred Heart Church in West Warwick. What was not in debate that morning is the fact that abortion is inherently evil and those who condone it are guilty of serious sin. Our brother John had an interesting take. He said that the very people Father Bucci was advocating to exclude from Communion were the ones who need it the very most. They should therefore be allowed to receive Communion. Maybe he’s right. If we allow only the sinless to receive the Eucharist, our Communion rails would be unapproachable.
