Sister Alice Pare

NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. — Sister Alice Pare (Sr. Lucilla Maria), SUSC, died January 14, 2018 at Madonna Manor, North Attleboro, Massachusetts. Born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, she was the daughter of the late Rodolphe and Diana (Larocque) Pare. Sister Alice was the last of the 9 children in her family to die. She is survived by many nieces including Sister Gertrude Pare, SUSC, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Sister Alice entered the Holy Union Sisters on January 23, 1937, and pronounced her final vows on August 15, 1944. She attended Sacred Heart School of Education and received a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Catholic Teachers College, Providence, Rhode Island.

Sister Alice’s teaching career spanned nearly 40 years. She taught elementary grades in schools staffed by the Holy Union Sisters in Massachusetts, New York and Rhode Island. When she left teaching,

She served as administrator for the Holy Union Sisters retirement community at St. Mary’s Convent, North Attleboro. In 2000, she joined the Holy Union Sisters living at The Landmark, Fall River. In January 2017, Sister Alice celebrated eighty years as a Holy Union Sister. Recently she moved to Madonna Manor in North Attleboro due to failing health.

The wake, Memorial Prayer and Mass of Christian Burial took place January 19, at St. Mary Church, 14 Park Street, North Attleboro. Donations in Sister Alice’s memory may be made to the Holy Union Sisters’ Mission Advancement Office, P.O. Box 410, Milton, Massachusetts, 02186-0006.
