NORTH SMITHFIELD — Franciscan Missionary of Mary Sister Hedwig Pawluc, 94, died April 12 at St. Antoine Residence.
Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Nikodem and Anna (Kudzneka) Pawluc. She entered the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary on December 13, 1933 at Fruit Hill, North Providence, where she pronounced her first vows on June 13, 1936. She was missioned to the former St. Francis Sanatorium, now St. Francis Hospital, Roslyn, N.Y., where she became a licensed practical nurse and cared for children suffering from rheumatic fever. She professed her final vows on June 13, 1942 at St. Francis Chapel, Roslyn. She was a well-known calligrapher who produced many documents for local parishes and schools.
Sister Pawluc was an accomplished musician and artist and ministered as organist, choir director and artist in religious communities in New York, Ohio, Massachusetts and in the Diocese of Providence. She also served for a year at the former Our Lady of Charity Community, Providence.
She is survived by a sister, Mary Warriner of Kansas, and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated April 16 in Holy Family Chapel, North Providence. Burial was in Holy Family Cemetery.
