Sister Kathleen Kieran SSND, 105

WILTON, CT — School Sister of Notre Dame Kathleen Kieran, 105, died September 14 at Lourdes Health Care Center at Villa Notre Dame. She was a professed religious for 85 years.

Born in Roxbury, MA, she was the daughter of the late Thomas F. and Patricia (Joyce) Kieran. She attended high school at the Institute of Notre Dame, Baltimore, MD, and Holy Angels Academy, currently located in Demerest, NJ. She earned a bachelor of arts degree in 1945 from Fordham University, New York City, where she majored in English and minored in history.

Sister Kieran entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame in Baltimore in 1920. She professed her vows in 1923, taking the name Sister Mary Ambrosine, and returned to her baptismal name many years later. She ministered as a teacher in schools conducted by her religious order in New York and Massachusetts. In the Diocese of Providence, she taught at the former Holy Name of Jesus School, Providence, from 1938 to 1957.

After retiring in 1988, Sister Kieran volunteered at St. Peter School, Cambridge, MA, before moving to Villa Notre Dame in 1993.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated September 17 in the Chapel at Villa Notre Dame. Burial was in St. Mary Cemetery, Bethel, CT.
