CUMBERLAND — Mercy Sister M. Florella Laffan, 85, died November 21 at Mount St. Rita Health Care Center.
Baptized Gertrude Edith Laffan in Manville, she was the daughter of the late James and Yvonne (Dupre) Laffan. She entered the Sisters of Mercy on February 2, 1941 and professed her vows on August 16, 1943.
Sister Laffan ministered at St. Vincent’s Home, Fall River, Mass. and was then assigned to St. Mary Academy-Bay View, East Providence, to assist in the kindergarten. She ministered there for 24 years until she retired in 1985.
Sister Laffan is survived by two sisters, Rita Morin of Manville and Claire Plasse-Lapointe of Woonsocket. She was the sister of the late Harriet Lamarre and Louise Sylvester.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated November 23 in Mount St. Rita Chapel. Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.
