Sister Ruth Follett, R.S.M.

WOONSOCKET — Mercy Sister Ruth Follett, 93, formerly known as Sister M. LaSallette, a retired educator, died Jan. 30, at Landmark Hospital.

Baptized Ruth Follett in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Christine (McAdam) Follett. She entered the Sisters of Mercy on September 8, 1934.

Sister Follett was a 1934 graduate of the former St. Francis Xavier Academy, Providence, and earned a bachelor of arts degree from Salve Regina College (now University), Newport, and a master’s degree in education from Boston University.

She ministered as a teacher at the former Tyler School in Providence; and St. Edward School in Pawtucket. In 1944 she was appointed to St. Catherine Academy in Belize. In 1949 she was transferred to the former St. Xavier Academy; and later ministered at Bishop Feehan High School, Attleboro, Mass.; and the former Mount St. Mary Academy, Fall River, Mass. Sister Follet returned to St. Xavier Academy in 1969 where she spent a total of 25 years teaching. In 1983 she became the librarian in St. Mary School, Cranston.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Edward, Charles, and Irving Follett, Ethel Longo, Christine Muller, and Rita Hansen.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Feb. 2 in Mount St. Rita Chapel, Cumberland. Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.
