St. Mary Academy - Bay View’s Spanish club sold handmade bracelets and bags during school lunch to benefit the Pulsera Project, “a nonprofit organization that educates, empowers and connects Central American artists with students in more than 1,600 U.S. schools through the sale of colorful handwoven bracelets.” The goal of the Spanish club was to raise $800, but they exceeded their goal by raising $1,020. All of the money was sent back to the Pulsera Project, which provides employment for nearly 200 Central American artists, and supports educational programs, scholarships, workers’ rights, community development, housing programs, youth shelters, and a wide range of other projects.
