Ancora helps local women choose life

PROVIDENCE — On the second and fourth Monday of each month, the Ancora, Rhode Island Right to Life’s Mobile Ultrasound Clinic, will visit St. Gabriel’s Call, the diocesan pregnancy outreach ministry, at One Cathedral Square. Ancora is able to provide basic women’s health services and ultrasounds which will encourage more women to view a sonogram of their baby and choose life. Free Income Tax Preparation

PROVIDENCE — Amos House, at 460 Pine St., will prepare free income tax returns for those who earned $55,000 or less in 2017. Appointments at this fully handicap-accessible site, which is open on Wednesdays and Fridays and will run through April 13, may be made by calling 401-272-0220. Theology on Tap scheduled

JOHNSTON — On Thursday, Feb. 1, from 6 – 8:30 p.m., young adults, single or married, in their 20s and 30s are invited to Theology on Tap, at Uncle Tony’s Pizza & Pasta, 46 Putnam Pike (Rt. 44). The topic will be “How to Meet the Special (Not about the Lego Movie): Dating and Marriage.” Come join us for a conversation on preparing for marriage, discerning who to marry, and how to do it right. Social hour begins at 6 p.m., followed by a presentation and Q&A at 7 p.m. The speaker will be Father Nicholas Fleming, assistant pastor of SS. John & Paul, Coventry. There is no fee for this event. A free-will donation will be collected. Participants are welcome to purchase food and drinks, but must be 21 to order alcoholic beverages. Bereavement Support Program scheduled

MIDDLETOWN — The Office of Life and Family of the Diocese of Providence will offer the Our Lady of Sorrows Bereavement Support Program at St. Lucy Church, 909 West Main Road, in the parish center, each Thursday evening 7 - 8:30 p.m., February 1 through March 22. This support group provides topics about grief and healing, the spiritual comforts of the Catholic Faith and a peaceful environment for adults to share about their grief after the loss of a loved one. The group is most appropriate for persons at least three months beyond their loss. There is no cost to attend! For registration or for more information, contact Peter A. The Five First Saturdays Devotion at St. Augustine Church

PROVIDENCE — On February 3, March 3, April 7 and May 5, the parishioners of St. Augustine Church, 639 Mt. Pleasant Ave., will have the opportunity to complete the Five First Saturday Devotion beginning with confession at 3:45 p.m., the Holy Rosary in song at 4 p.m., meditation on the mysteries of the Rosary at 4:30 p.m. and Mass with Holy Communion beginning at 5 p.m. All are invited.

The National Day of Prayer for the African American Family

PROVIDENCE — The National Day of Prayer for the African American and African Family will be celebrated on February 4. The day was created by Fr. James Goode, OFM in 1989, set aside to give special thanks to God for our families and place our every care in the arms of Jesus. Catholic Underground event scheduled

PROVIDENCE — Catholic Underground will take place at St. Patrick Church on February 10, beginning at 8 p.m. with a Holy Hour with Evening Prayer. Praise and worship music will be provided by Revive Ministry, as well as a musical performance by Ryan Trembley and art exhibit by Keithworx Illustration.

Mardi Gras Comedy Night

PROVIDENCE — A Mardi Gras Comedy Night will be held at St. Agnes Church, 351 Branch Ave., on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 6 p.m. The show features Bob Gautreau, known as the “Italian Don Rickles” and John Perrotta, a member of the Rhode Island Comedy Hall of Fame. The $20 ticket includes an all-you-can-eat pasta dinner and the show. Tickets can be purchased before and after Mass.

Polish dinner to benefit Jamaican Mission Trip

TIVERTON — A Polish dinner will be held on Saturday, Feb. 10, at St. Theresa parish hall, 265 Stafford Road. Appetizers will be served at 5 p.m. and dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults; children 10 and under are free. After dinner music provided by Classic Rock Band “Noise In the Basement.” This dinner will benefit parish youth attending the Jamaican Mission Trip in June 2018 and is sponsored by the Catholic Faith Communities of St. Theresa and St. Christopher. Valentine’s Day Dinner Dance to benefit local charities

BURRILLVILLE — A Valentine’s Day Dinner Dance will be held on Sunday, Feb. 11 from 1 to 5 p.m. at Bella Restaurant on Route 102 in Glendale. This event is co-sponsored by the Burrillville Lions Club and the Pascoag Council Knights of Columbus. A family-style chicken dinner will be served with music by the nostalgic Bel Aires, “Burrillville’s Own” since 1964. Seasonal gift baskets and other prizes will be raffled and an appearance by Cupid is expected. Tickets are $25 per person with all proceeds benefiting local charities. Knights to sponsor Valentine’s Breakfast

NORTH KINGSTOWN — The Knights of Columbus will hold a Valentine’s Breakfast at the council hall, 1265 Tower Hill Road, on Sunday, Feb. 11, from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Eggs, toast, home fries, sausage links, Belgian waffles, baked beans, chocolate dipped strawberries, hot and cold cereal, orange juice, coffee and tea will be served. WARREN — A Mardi Gras Breakfast will be held at St. Alexander Church, 221 Main St., on Sunday, Feb. 11 from 10 a.m. – noon. The menu includes a waffle station, eggs, sausage, ham, homemade home fries, pastries and muffins, fruit, juice and coffee. Adults $10; Children (12 and under) $7. Ladies Guild of Saint Bartholomew to host Mardi Gras Cavati and Polenta Buffet

PROVIDENCE — The Ladies Guild of Saint Bartholomew Parish will host a Mardi Gras Cavati and Polenta Buffet on Tuesday, Feb. 13, at 6:30 p.m., in the church hall, 311 Laurel Hill Ave. Donation for this event is $20 for adults, children 6-12 will be $10. Monthly General Grief Support Group meeting at the Villa at Saint Antoine

NORTH SMITHFIELD — Hope Hospice & Palliative Care Rhode Island is offering off-site monthly general grief support group meetings at the Villa at Saint Antoine, 400 Mendon Road, open to any person experiencing the profound effects of loss and grief. Meetings take place on the third Wednesday of every month, including February 21 from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Center for Hope & Healing support groups are facilitated as mutual support groups and participants do not have to have lost a loved one while in the care of Hope Hospice & Palliative Care Rhode Island.
