Autism and the Sacraments

October Devotions at St. Margaret Church
RUMFORD — St. Margaret Parish, 1098 Pawtucket Ave., will honor Mary, the Mother of God, during the month of October. Recitation of the rosary and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament will be held every Thursday at 7 p.m. during October. All are welcome to join in prayer and reflection.

PROVIDENCE — Care for Creation Series: The Catholic Church and Ecology will begin on Saturday, Oct. 19 with a talk entitled “Addressing the Throw-away Culture” from 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Providence College – Aquinas Hall. The following talks will take place, Tuesday, Oct. 22: “Consumer Habits,” from 6:30 – 9 p.m. in the Cathedral of SS. St. Francis de Sales Parish Yard Sale
NORTH KINGSTOWN — St. Francis de Sales Parish, 381 School St., will hold its annual indoor yard sale on Saturday, Oct. 19, and Sunday, Oct. 20 from 8 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., rain or shine. Rosary Rally at Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery
EXETER — The parishioners at St. Kateri Tekakwitha will host an outdoor Rosary Rally on Saturday, October 19, at the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, 301 South County Trail, from noon – 1 p.m. Rain date is October 26 at the same time and location. All present will gather around the Memorial Wall (adjacent to the WWII monument) in the center of the cemetery at 11:45 a.m. This Rosary Rally is in accordance with the 2019 “Public Square Rosary Crusade,” and “America Needs Fatima” campaign for 2019. Please meet to pray the rosary together. Bring your own rosary, or rosaries will be available.
Women’s apostolate to offer prayers for priests, seminarians and vocations
PROVIDENCE — The Mary Mother of Priests Apostolate (MMOP) is a women’s prayer apostolate offering prayers for priests, seminarians and vocations. The next meeting will be Saturday, Oct. 19 at Our Lady of Providence Seminary. Mass begins at 9 a.m. followed by adoration, prayer and fellowship. MMOP sponsors the Adopt-a-Priest project with the Serra Club. All women are welcome.
Saint Jude Triduum
PROVIDENCE — Saint Agnes Church, 351 Branch Ave. will hold a Novena for three evenings in honor of Saint Jude on Sunday, Oct. 20, Monday, Oct. 21, and Tuesday, Oct. 22. Mass and Novena prayers will be offered at 6 p.m. The theme of the St. Jude Triduum is “Renewing Our Spirituality: 12 Celtic Spiritual Practices that Celebrate God in the World.” A reception and raffle drawing will follow Mass on the last evening of the St. Jude Triduum.

Domestic Violence and Human Trafficking Forum
WOONSOCKET — The Social Justice Committee of Holy Trinity Parish will sponsor a forum on Domestic Violence and Human Trafficking on Sunday, October 20, from 9 – 10:15 a.m. The presenters will be Laudine Koster, Director of Advocacy for Day One, a statewide organization that works with victims and Woonsocket Police Officer Michael Martinsen, an instructor on the issue of domestic violence at the Municipal Police Training Academy. The Social Justice Committee presents information on the 7 themes of Catholic Social Teaching. The Fall presentations will focus on the themes of “Life and Dignity of the Human Person” and “Call to Family, Community and Participation.” The forum will be held in the Hospitality Room of Holy Trinity Parish, 1409 Park Ave.
Hope and Cope support group to meet
PORTSMOUTH — The St. Matthias Ministry Hope and Cope Support Group will meet on Sunday, Oct. 20, from 5 - 6 p.m. in the chapel meeting room, under the chapel, at St. Barnabas Church, 1697 E. Main Road. If you know someone who is supporting a loved one or friend in need of recovery or currently in recovery yourself, then this group is for you. Annual Pan-Orthodox Service for the Protection of the Environment
PAWTUCKET — A special service will be held Sunday, Oct. 20, 5 p.m., at Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 97 Walcott St. Special guest speaker will be Rev. Deacon John Chryssavgis sharing a talk entitled, “Caring for God’s Creation: The Inspiration and Initiatives of the Ecumenical Patriarch.” Talk to be followed by film entitled “Green Attica” produced by Dn. Chryssavgis. Archdeacon Chryssavgis is an author and theologian who serves as advisor to the Ecumenical Patriarch on environmental issues. He is clergyman of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, and is the author of Creation as Sacrament: Reflections on Ecology and Spirituality. The event is free and open to the public and is sponsored by the Rhode Island Orthodox Clergy Fellowship.
Domestic Violence Support
EAST PROVIDENCE — Are you or someone you know experiencing physical, verbal, emotional or psychological abuse, or feel afraid, confused, not knowing where to turn? The Office of Life and Family is offering “Pathway to Peace,” a Catholic oriented, domestic violence workshop at Our Lady of Loreto Church, 346 Waterman Ave., in the rectory downstairs, on Wednesday, October 23, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. This workshop is free and will include a twenty minute video, a testimony, discussions, support and ideas in how to better reach out to those who need help. Theological Exchange between Catholics and Jews
PROVIDENCE — The Department of Theology and the Office of Mission and Ministry at Providence College will host a panel discussion in the series entitled “Theological Exchange between Catholics and Jews.” The panel, “Reflections on Oberammergau: The World’s Most Famous Passion Play & Jewish-Christian Relations,” will be held on Thursday, Oct. 24, 6 p.m., in Aquinas Lounge. Holy Rosary Sodality Harvest Bazaar
BRISTOL — The Holy Rosary Sodality of St. Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood St., will hold the 47th annual Harvest Bazaar on Saturday, Oct. 26 in the parish auditorium (building adjourned to church) from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. There will be many booths with Christmas items, arts & crafts, homemade pastries including Portuguese sweet bread, Bingo, a country store, jewelry booth, White Elephant table, collectibles and religious booths with lots of different items in all of them. The kitchen will serve chowder, meatballs, hot dogs, and Portuguese foods, soup, pulled pork, favas, chourice and pepper sandwiches, homemade desserts for lunch and more. There will also be free face painting from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Admission is free.
Dr. Peter Kwasniewski to speak at R.I. Parishes
PROVIDENCE / TIVERTON — Dr. Peter Kwasniewski, writer and speaker on Catholic tradition, composer of sacred music and a former professor of philosophy, theology, music and art history to speak at local parishes. Masses for Recovery
WARWICK — The next Mass for Recovery will be offered on Sunday, Oct. 27, 5 p.m., in the chapel meeting room, under the chapel, at St. Barnabas Church, 1697 E. Main Road. These Masses, to which all are welcome, provide an opportunity for people to come together in faith to seek God’s loving kindness and grace with special prayer intentions dedicated for those in recovery. If you or loved ones struggle with alcohol, drugs, addictions, mental distress, or support folks who suffer from the effects of these issues, you are encouraged to attend. WOONSOCKET — St. Agatha Church, 34 Joffre Ave., will host a Christmas bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 2 and Sunday, Nov. 3, from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., in the church hall.
