Free Income Tax Preparation

PROVIDENCE — Amos House, at 460 Pine St., will prepare free income tax returns for those who earned $55,000 or less in 2017. Appointments at this fully handicap-accessible site, which is open on Wednesdays and Fridays and will run through April 13, may be made by calling 401-272-0220. Mark Gordon to speak at St. Sebastian Church lecture on Catholic Social Teaching in today’s world

PROVIDENCE — St. Sebastian's Church, 67 Cole Ave., is excited to announce the second in a series of four spiritual lectures. In response to popular demand, Mark Gordon will return to the parish on Wednesday, Jan. 31, at 7 p.m., to discuss the application of Catholic Social Teaching in today's complex and polarized public sphere. Come hear the Church's alternative to ideologies from the right and left. Mark Gordon is the president of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in the Diocese of Providence. He is the author of Forty Days, Forty Graces: Essays of a Grateful Pilgrim, has written for the National Catholic Register, Aleteia, and other Catholic Publications. He blogs on the Dorothy Option on the Patheos Catholic channel, and is a frequent writer and commentator on the meeting ground between spirituality and social concerns. Refreshments will be offered.

Archbishop of Abuja, Nigeria to visit Holy Name of Jesus Church

PROVIDENCE — Holy Name of Jesus Parish will be blessed with a visit from Cardinal John Olorunfemi Onaiyekan, Archbishop of Abuja, Nigeria. His Eminence will be visiting Holy Name Parish from the January 27 – 30. During his stay, he will celebrate Mass on Sunday, Jan. 28, at 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. He will also address the 11 a.m. traditional Latin Mass on the same day. Following the 12:30 p.m. celebration with the African Catholic Community, his Eminence will share some time with all present who wish to speak with him at the parish rectory.

Immaculate Conception to present annual pro-life award

WESTERLY — Immaculate Conception Parish will present its annual pro-life St. Thomas More Defender of the Faith Award to Maria Parker for defending life in the womb. Parker, a Westerly resident and longtime pro-life activist serving in the Diocese of Providence and Archdiocese of Boston, and also as a special liaison from the Holy See, will be honored with the award during the parish’s annual Pro-Life Dinner on January 27 at 6 p.m. in the parish hall. Knights to host ‘Taste of Italy’ dinner

WARWICK — The St. Gregory the Great Knights of Columbus is sponsoring its second annual “Taste of Italy” on Saturday, Jan. 27 in the church hall, 360 Cowesett Rd. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the buffet begins at 5:30 p.m. Last year’s dinner was a spectacular success and raised more than $5,000 for the organization’s charitable works. Once again, Chef Domenic Rozzero, a parishioner and a member of the Knights of Columbus, has put together an authentic Italian dinner menu, including Pasta Domenic Style, Baked Cod Fish Italiano, Chicken Parmesan, and assorted Italian desserts. All food will be made from scratch at the church. A cash bar will be available. Proceeds from this dinner will benefit the charitable works of the Knights of Columbus. Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for children. Only 300 tickets will be sold for this event. Tickets will be available at the door, but to ensure your seat, contact the parish office at 884-1666 or come by after the weekend Masses in January.

Feeney Knights to host breakfast

NORTH SCITUATE — The Feeney Council Knights of Columbus will be serving a “Wish it were May” breakfast on Sunday, Jan. 28 at St. Joseph Church, 144 Danielson Pike, N. Scituate from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The breakfast menu is pancakes, sausage, eggs cooked to order, coffee, juice and hot chocolate. A free will offering will be greatly appreciated to support the Knights of Columbus Scholarship Fund.

Woodlawn Catholic Regional to host Open House, Alumni Mass

PAWTUCKET — Woodlawn Catholic Regional School, 61 Hope St., will hold an Open House on Sunday, Jan. 28 from 1 -3 p.m. Learn about our strong academic, faith-based program for grades pre-K through 8. Masses for Recovery scheduled

PORTSMOUTH/WARWICK — The next Mass for Recovery will be offered on Sunday, January 28 at 5 p.m., St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road. These Masses, to which all are welcome, provide an opportunity for people to come together in faith to seek God’s loving kindness and grace with special prayer intentions dedicated for those in recovery. If you or loved ones struggle with alcohol, drugs, addictions, mental distress, or support folks who suffer from the effects of these issues, you are encouraged to attend. Monthly Bible Study at St. Agnes Church

Theology on Tap scheduled

JOHNSTON — On Thursday, Feb. 1, from 6 – 8:30 p.m., young adults, single or married, in their 20s and 30s are invited to Theology on Tap, at Uncle Tony’s Pizza & Pasta, 46 Putnam Pike (Rt. 44). The topic will be “How to Meet the Special (Not about the Lego Movie): Dating and Marriage.” Come join us for a conversation on preparing for marriage, discerning who to marry, and how to do it right. Social hour begins at 6:00 PM followed by a presentation and Q&A at 7p.m. The speaker will be Father Nicholas Fleming, Assistant Pastor of Saints John & Paul, Coventry. Bereavement Support Program scheduled

MIDDLETOWN — The Office of Life and Family of the Diocese of Providence will offer the Our Lady of Sorrows Bereavement Support Program at St. Lucy Church, 909 West Main Road, in the parish center, each Thursday evening 7 - 8:30 p.m., February 1 through March 22. This support group provides topics about grief and healing, the spiritual comforts of the Catholic Faith and a peaceful environment for adults to share about their grief after the loss of a loved one. Knights to sponsor Valentine’s Breakfast

NORTH KINGSTOWN — The Knights of Columbus will hold a Valentine’s Breakfast at the council hall, 1265 Tower Hill Road, on Sunday, Feb. 11, from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Eggs, toast, home fries, sausage links, Belgian waffles, baked beans, chocolate dipped strawberries, hot and cold cereal, orange juice, coffee and tea will be served. The cost is $10, children 6 and under are free.

Mardi Gras Breakfast to be held at St. Alexander Church

WARREN — A Mardi Gras Breakfast will be held at St. Alexander Church, 221 Main St., on Sunday, Feb. 11 from 10 a.m. – noon. The menu includes a waffle station, eggs, sausage, ham, homemade home fries, pastries and muffins, fruit, juice, and coffee. Adults $10; Children (12 and under) $7. Ladies Guild of Saint Bartholomew to host Mardi Gras Cavati and Polenta Buffet

Monthly General Grief Support Group Meeting at the Villa at Saint Antoine

NORTH SMITHFIELD — Hope Hospice & Palliative Care Rhode Island is offering off-site monthly general grief support group meetings at the Villa at Saint Antoine, 400 Mendon Road, open to any person experiencing the profound effects of loss and grief. Meetings take place on the third Wednesdays of every month, including February 21 from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Center for Hope & Healing support groups are facilitated as mutual support groups and participants do not have to have lost a loved one while in the care of Hope Hospice & Palliative Care Rhode Island.
