Students from Saint Margaret School in Rumford attended Bishop Emeritus Robert E. Mulvee’s Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, January 10 to honor the seventh bishop of the Diocese of Providence and also to support Msgr. John Darcy, pastor of Saint Margaret’s. From 1999 until 2005, when Bishop Mulvee retired, Msgr. John Darcy served as his vicar general, chancellor and personnel director. “Bishop Mulvee was a wonderful and humble shepherd to the people of Rhode Island and was a dear friend and mentor to Msgr. Darcy,” according to a statement from St. Margaret School. Bishop Emeritus Robert E. Mulvee, D.D., J.C.D., 88, died following a brief illness on Friday, Dec. 28, at St. Antoine Residence in North Smithfield. Bishop Thomas J. Tobin has asked the faithful to pray for the peaceful repose of his soul and for the consolation of all those who mourn his loss.
