Thanksgiving Worship Service of Ecumenical Prayers and Music planned

Posted

SLATERSVILLE — The religious communities of the Greater Woonsocket Area are encouraged to gather on Sunday, Nov. 19, at 4 p.m. for a service of simple thanksgiving of music, word, song and prayer at Slatersville Congregational Church, UCC, 25 Green St. Slatersville. Each pastor/representative leader of the religious communities participating in the Thanksgiving service will light a candle and give voice to two things about their congregation: one specific thing for which their community is thankful from the past year; and one specific thing that they are hopeful about for the coming year.

Choirs or individuals are welcome to participate in a one-time choir under the direction of the Slatersville Choir Director, John Staples. The piece is “Let Us Give Thanks to the Lord.” All interested in singing should arrive at Slatersville Church at 3:15 p.m. with music. The choir will not robe. Each participant is asked to bring one or two plates of snacks for a time of fellowship that will follow. Please contact Rev. Eileen Morris with any questions, or to receive one copy of the music and to let the church know who will be participating in the service. She may be reached at ejmorris@aol.com or 401-769-2773.

This Thanksgiving Service is an initiative of a group of clergy from the Woonsocket, Blackstone and North Smithfield areas and is dedicated to the late Father Edward St-Godard, pastor-emeritus of Holy Family Parish, who was the original organizer and who held Thanksgiving Services at Holy Family Parish for 15 years.
