Holy Day of OblIgation

The Immaculate Conception of Mary

Posted

Friday, Dec., 8 is the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a holy day of obligation for Catholics.

To honor Mary on her special day, be sure to attend Holy Mass; don’t hesitate to ask Mary for her help and guidance, and present to her all of your needs and intentions. During this year with “Mary Our Mother” Bishop Tobin will celebrate the vigil Mass on Thursday, Dec. 7, at 7 p.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Cranston.

“The mystery of God’s grace enfolded her from the first instant of her existence as the creature destined to be the Mother of the Redeemer, preserving her from the stain of original sin. Looking at her, we recognize the loftiness and beauty of God’s plan for everyone – to become holy and immaculate in love, in the image of our Creator.”

(Pope Benedict XVI)
