To suggest that Catholics should receive the Eucharist while supporting abortion is ludicrous

TO THE EDITOR:

Regarding the letter, “Should those who need it the most be excluded from Communion?” (Feb. 6), there is the sacrament of reconciliation available to all Catholics which, when received by the penitent with the sincere vow to sin no more, enables a return to grace and the ability to receive the Holy Eucharist once again. We know that Our Blessed Lord forgave many sinners when He walked this earth, but in each of these examples from Scripture Jesus stipulates: ‘Go and sin no more.’ The politicians who claim to be Catholics and yet advocate for or support laws that allow the murder of unborn babies are living in some kind of a denial bubble. There is no room for argument here. Abortion is murder. To suggest that any Catholic be permitted to receive Holy Communion while continuing to advocate for or support abortion is ludicrous. 1451: Among the penitent’s acts, contrition occupies first place. Contrition is “sorrow of the soul and detestation for the sin committed, together with the resolution not to sin again.” Read the Catechism. Father Bucci is doing his job.
