Voters must view sanctity of life through a much broader lens

To the Editor:

Yes, Mr. Trump is a flawed man. The extent to which Catholics and Evangelicals are willing to overlook the nonexistence of Christian values in his role as President bewilders me. He demonstrates no concern for the sanctity of life. Yet, he rallies Catholics and Evangelicals in his opposition to abortion, the litmus test for far too many voters. Even following the appointment of two conservative Supreme Court Justices, there is no guarantee that the outcome will be as Trump promises. Supreme Court Justices make decisions on established law and the Constitution, not the urging of any office holder.
The issue of sanctity of life is not limited to inside the womb: it must also extend to life outside the womb. To the peaceful protestors seeking to be heard; to infants and young children cruelly separated from their parents at the border (a trauma from which they may never fully recover); to the more than 150,000 Americans and counting who have died needlessly from a pandemic due to this administration’s bungling over the last SIX months of the COVID-19 health crisis. Where is the outrage among Catholics and Evangelicals? This President, believing he is omnipotent, ignores his advisors and infectious disease experts, abandons science, and is incapable of understanding that science evolves over time particularly for a novel virus.
I am very troubled by the Catholics and Evangelicals who are willing look the other way re: this DEEPLY FLAWED, incompetent man. Voters must view life through a much broader lens. Every life deserves protection. Trump must not be reelected!
