Bishop Tobin to La Salle seniors: 'Faith must be foundation in your lives'

Bishop Thomas J. Tobin celebrated Mass for the seniors at La Salle Academy in Providence Monday morning, along with Father Jeremy Rodrigues and Father Michael Najim, the high school’s Catholic chaplain.

As the seniors begin preparations for their upcoming commencement, Bishop Tobin offered his prayerful support as well as some advice as they conclude their high school careers. He said that college is a time of great potential and promise, but it can also be a time of great challenge if they do not have a sense of moral courage.

“You need to be really strong and you have to be grounded in something good and positive — and that’s your faith in God, your faith in Jesus Christ,” he said.

The bishop added that this new time in their lives is exciting and it is important to remember where they come from as Christians.

“When you get on campus, stay involved in the life of the church,” he said. “Make the effort to get involved in your faith. It will make a huge difference for you, going forward, and will lead you to eternal life and that’s the best gift we can give you.”
