A Glaring and Tragic Omission

Posted

Sometimes silence speaks more loudly and more clearly than words do. The truth of this was exemplified (no doubt intentionally) by Vice President Kamala Harris, in her remarks to a group of abortion supporters in Florida on the 50th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision. There she said, “So we are here together because we collectively believe and know America is a promise. America is a promise. It is a promise of freedom and liberty — not for some, but for all.”
Unfortunately, in the lexicon of the vice president, “all” does not include pre-born human beings. She made that crystal clear when she offered this qualifying remark: “A promise we made in the Declaration of Independence that we are each endowed with the right to liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”
Notice the egregious omission — an omission that would have certainly made our Founding Fathers cringe. In her desire to impress and inspire her militant, pro-abortion comrades, the current vice president neglected to mention the first “inalienable right” mentioned in the Declaration — the right to “life” — without which all other rights are rendered meaningless. This is something, of course, which should be obvious to every reasonable and clear-thinking person. If you never make it out of the womb, the rights to liberty and the pursuit of happiness — and every other God-given right that people enjoy on planet earth — will not matter. If you’re deprived of the right to life (as more than 64 million babies have been in the United States since 1973), you will lack the ability to live in freedom and to pursue the happiness that the rest of us — including Vice President Harris — are blessed to be able to pursue each and every day.
We need to pray that someday our vice president will realize that, so that when she quotes the Declaration of Independence thereafter, she will end her disturbing silence on the foundational and God-given right to life.
