PROVIDENCE —Bishop Bruce Lewandowski, C.Ss.R., celebrated Ash Wednesday Mass on February 18 at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul in Providence, reminding us of our journey toward renewal and grace.
“Brothers and Sisters, we know the plan, the strategy, the work of Lent: Pray, fast, help,” the Bishop said during an impassioned homily. “But we need to go beyond praying in the pews. We need to go beyond just meatless Friday or fasting. We need to go beyond just giving loose change to people in need. Go to the extremes. Jesus went to extreme lengths to show his love and care for us. We need to go all out, give it our all, go above and beyond, in our practice. That’s what Lent’s all about. Because every day of our Catholic Christian lives, 365 days a year, we are called to pray, fast and help but for 40 days, we’re called to do it with greater intensity. We’re invited to go all out, above and beyond. And it will make all the difference now…it will make all the difference this coming Easter and even into eternity. Go Big this Lent!”
